Professional Animal Hospital in Moruya

Professional Animal Hospital

Moruya Animal Hospital is a new purpose-built veterinary hospital designed, equipped and staffed to provide the highest quality animal care services to patients.

Our history

Our animal hospital was founded by local veterinarian, Dr Kerry Jackson, in February 2014. Kerry has been a qualified veterinarian since 1988 and has spent most of her career working in a range of animal hospitals in Australia and overseas. Kerry gained her initial post-graduation veterinary experience at Batemans Bay, Moruya, and Braidwood and returned to Moruya to live and work in 2002. Since that time, she has built a reputation for competence and integrity amongst clients and recognition of genuine compassion for her patients.

In late 2013, Kerry decided that it was time to pursue her dream of opening her own practice with the primary aim of meeting the needs of her many existing clients, whilst offering a service to further her special interest in small animal medicine and surgery.

Moruya Animal Hospital opened in February 2014 and is the culmination of that dream. Although we are a relatively small veterinary practice (and deliberately so), our animal hospital is fully equipped and designed with your pet’s wellbeing in mind.

Complete care for small animals

Moruya Animal Hospital is well stocked to provide complete care for small animals. We stock an extensive range of veterinary health care products, including the highly recommended Royal Canin range of specialist foods for your best friend, be it cat or dog.

Our Team

Principal Veterinarian

Dr Kerry Jackson graduated as a veterinary surgeon from the University of Sydney in 1988. During her coursework, Kerry did veterinary work in Moruya and took up full time vet work locally, prior to a stint overseas in the early 1990s.

As someone who was born and grew up in the Monaro and Eurobodalla regions, working in Moruya was a “natural fit” and she returned to the area to permanently live, work and rejoin the family in 2002.

During her career, Kerry has worked with many animal species, great and small, and from lions to lizards, but has always recognised the importance of domestic pets to families and been drawn to resolving the myriad health and behavioural issues which can arise. This focus on small animals and the desire to provide care of the highest standard provided the impetus to establish a dedicated small animal veterinary practice, Moruya Animal Hospital.

Kerry is a sight hound fan and is “owned” by Polly the greyhound and Toby the whippet. In her “spare” time, Kerry promotes the rehoming of greyhounds on behalf of Greyhound Rescue and is passionate in her efforts to inform and educate potential owners of the gentle, affectionate nature of these wonderful animals.

Whilst highly experienced in all facets of animal medicine, Kerry has a special interest in skin issues - an often-undervalued aspect of animal care and one requiring skill and experience to effectively treat.

Nursing Staff

Sharyn Taylor

Sharyn Taylor  is our vastly experienced and highly qualified senior nurse who can also be prevailed upon to squeeze in some reception duties when required. Sharyn has been nursing for 20 years, the last 6 years of which have been on the South Coast.

Only a person with Sharyn’s high skill and experience levels can generate such a calm, friendly and efficient manner. This is appreciated by the animals, other staff, and clients. Prior to embarking on her veterinary nursing career, Sharyn hand-raised flying foxes before becoming a long serving volunteer with WIRES.

Jordan West

Jordan West  is an enthusiastic trainee nurse who is showing great aptitude as she gains experience on her path to being fully qualified. Jordan already has a degree in Midwifery, which provides an unusual and quite exceptional depth to her nursing knowledge. All this, together with an instinctive rapport with clients and patients, makes Jordan an exceptional asset to the practice.

Brooke Seis

Brooke Seis  is our newest member of staff. Brooke is a fully qualified Certificate 4 nurse and is already demonstrating a high skill level and a fantastic level of care and kindness to our patients. We hope that Brooke will be with us for many years and are sure that you will appreciate her as much as we do.

Andrew Derwent

Andrew Derwent  manages the more mundane, non-veterinary aspects of the practice. Andrew has a background in farming, business administration, retailing and public service and sees his role as ensuring that the professional staff are not unduly distracted by the routine administration tasks associated with any practice.
